Biography
Richard Perrin lived in Virginia.
Richard Perrin was born about 1635 in England, the son of Thomas Perrin (1585-1689) and Elizabeth (Chalfont) Perrin. He married Katherine Ann Royall about 1657 in Henrico Co., Virginia. Katherine was born during the 1640's in Virginia, the daughter of Joseph Royall (1600-1655) and Katherine (Banks) Royall (1625-1686).[1]
Richard Perrin is first mentioned as a headright in Henrico on June 16, 1637.[2] He is also recorded in other patents in 1638, 1653 and 1657.[3]His own patents of 740 acres, 474 acres at Land's End where he lived, and 256 acres, totaling 1,480 acres, are also recorded as well as other records of him in Henrico.[4]

It has been a while since I worked on the Royalls (he's attached as husband to Katherine Royall).
Anyone familiar with Richard Perrin?
Per Wikipedia, "Headrights were given to heads-of-households, and because 50 acres were accumulated for each member of the household, families had an incentive to make the passage to the colonies together." If the subject Richard Perrin were born in 1635, he would have been a toddler in 1637, and would not have been identified as the person "imported" to merit that grant to Thomas Osbourne. Ditto with the record of 1638 noted above. At age 3, this Richard would have been too young to own land in his own name.
Instead, I think that both of these records relate to the Richard Perrin whose age was given as 26 on survey report 4204, rev 04005 [Va Colonial Records Survey, Va. State Library] in 1638. That means that he was born in or about 1612.
In that regard, I note that 8 March 1611/2, Thomas "Perin" had a son Richard christened at Oving, Sussex. Oving is a suburb of Chichester, about ten miles east of Westbourne. Also in that same parish, Thomas and Anne Perrin had a son John chr. 8 Dec 1605. There may have been two different men named Thomas Perrin there during those years, as a Thomas Perin living at Westbourne had a son John chr. 3 Sept 1618. A son of Thomas Perrin named John was buried at Oving 30 Nov 1625.
At Chichester, "Richard Perrin the son of Richard Perrin was buried the 14th day of February 1635 [1636, n.s.]/ https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/561267:62121?tid=&pid=&queryId=33cdb83fee0e2f95e7add0ee0be294f9&_phsrc=Pha2&_phstart=successSource. Also a "Richard Perin ye Sonn of Richard Perine was buried 7 daye of January a[nn]o 1639 [=1640], and Susan Perine "ye Daughter of Richard Perine" two years later, 28 April 1642, both in Chichester.
These may or may not relate to the following letter addressed to John Perrin of Virginia by his mother Susan Perrin. It is undated but must have been written before 1648 as that was when it was offered in evidence in a court case in York County, Virginia:
Son John: My love to you, and I was very glad to heare of yor health, but very sorry to heare of ye accident wch befell you by fire. I have sent you a boy wch I desire that you would have as much care of as if he was yor owne. Alsoe I have sent you some things, so much as I am able at this tyme, and if God shall enable me to live another yeare I shall send you more. Yor father hath departed this life, and hath left you a little house in ye South-gate streete in burg worth the matter of 40 lb There is a noate in ye barrell it lieth at ye topp in ye new blankett, and I have sent you by Tho: a small peece of gould for yor wife. Alsoe I have pd for ye boy his passage, his name is Backer. Yor uncle Christopher lives at Ascamack [=Accomack County] at Cheryston Creeke, & as you desire my blessing have a care of ye boy, and learn him his trade, and not to pt from him * * * My love to you & yor wife desiring of God to keepe * * * Your loveing mother, Susan Perrin.
By the fact that Susan sent a gold piece to her son "by Thomas," I surmise that John had a brother Thomas Perrin who brought the letter to Virginia, or went to the colony in a separate ship, but at about the same time.
Some people think that the above John Perrin (son of Susan) was the brother of the Richard Perrin in the early headright record. This Richard would have been of about the right age to have been having children in 1635-1642, but I don't consider him as the likely father of the children buried at Chichester in those years. I can scarcely imagine that he would have been begetting children in England while serving out the obligations of a headright in tidewater Virginia. Therefore, the Chichester entries mainly serve to inform us that there was more than one set of Perrin parents who used the given names RIchard and Susan for their children.
I am frustrated by my inability to find a marriage record that clearly relates to the author of that letter. The only marriages of a "Susan" to a man named Perrin that pop up on FreeReg or FamilySearch for the subject period are those of the widow Susan Shill to William Perine 8 Feb 1596/7 at Selsey, Sussex; of Susanna Surredge to Petrus Perine 15 July 1588 at Bovey Tracey, Devon, and of Susan Fox to John "Perram" 4 Jan 1607 in Modbury, Devon.
Perhaps someone who has been researching the Perrins of colonial Virginia in more depth than I have can set me straight.
And... this profile, being a colonist, should be under US Southern Colonies Project (which was dormant for a few years - Virginia Project picked up a lot of profiles during that time that we're still in the process of transferring to the re-launched US Southern Colonies Project).

It appears that the source listed in the Research Notes section is not actually referring to THIS Richard Perrin but rather to Richard Perrin (abt.1661-bef.1704) who is either a nephew or cousin, because Ann Gros (Marin) Perrin (abt.1662-abt.1711) is his mother and not Katherine (Royall) Perrin (abt.1643-1686).
We know that Ann (Perrin) East had three sisters, Elizabeth (Perrin) Hatcher (abt.1679-abt.1748), Jean (Perrin) Bayley (abt.1681-), Martha Ann Marin (Perrin) Cardwell (1694-1751) and two brothers, John Perrin (-bef.1717) and Richard Perrin (abt.1661-bef.1704). All of which has been sourced from wills and estate information and is slowly being updated on all the relevant profiles.
Ann Perrin-800 East and Martha Perrin-2256 Cardwell are showing as sisters of Richard Perrin-2063. And also as children of Richard Perrin-2063 = Ann (Perrin-2064) East, Martha (Perrin-33) Cardwell.
Also showing as daughter of Richard Perrin-2063 is Elizabeth Marie (Perrin-704) Smith, who shows with a different Mother = Anne Porter-2078 Perrin.
The other wife of Richard Perrin-2063 is Ann Gros (Marin-588) Perrin, (also Betty Fauerbach Kennedys profile). This Ann Marin-588 Perrins will is posted on her profile and names her daughter Elizabeth as Alday/Aldy.
