Talitha (Perritt) Keefe was born in South Carolina.
Talitha was born on 1 October 1866 in Marion County, South Carolina to John E. Perritt and Nancy Ann Campbell.[1][2] Her father was a farmer in the township of Moody.[3] Talitha married William A. Keefe around 1891 and gave birth to 6 children, 2 of whom died in childhood.[4]
There is a story that has been passed down that there was a Bigham family who lived close by that was trying to scare away his neighbors. The story says that Telitha was sitting at her dressing mirror brushing her hair when a bullet shot by someone in that family went whizzing by her head. The story is somewhat plausible as the Bighams were living nearby in the 1900 census and are rather notorious for their violent history during that time. More information about the Bighams can be found here :The Trials of Edmund Bigham.
