Biography

This profile can use the help of anyone with some knowledge of the Perritt family of South Carolina.

Biography

Jesse B was born about 1822. Jesse was born before 1857. Jesse Perritt ... [1]He is the son of David Lewis Perritt and Sarah Bryant.

Jesse had a purported sixteen children and was married many times. The order of his marriages and which wife was the mother of which child is in question. Most of the children appear on censuses, but due to the fact that he remarried rather quickly, there is no obvious break between the children's birth years. I have listed what I think might be correct below.

Spouses and Children

One of Jesse's spouses was Elizabeth Mary Tart Dec 1814-5 Dec 1882 FindaGrave Memorial. Elizabeth was married to (1) Alfred Kirvin (2) Elias P Townsend (3) Jesse B Perritt. Elias Townsend died in 1867 and they had seven children. I have to assume that Elizabeth would not have married Jesse until after 1867. Since she would have been in her mid-50's or older when they married, it is unlikely that she mothered any of his children. She was also about eight years older than Jesse.

The next spouse in question is Nancy Ellis. I can find no records of her, but she is listed as the mother of son #1 Ferdinand Perritt 1845-20 Mar 1919 on his death certificate.

The third spouse is Elizabeth b. 1830. Some name her as Elizabeth Turbeville, and some as the Elizabeth Tart (above), still others name her as Mary Elizabeth Dew with the same birth and death dates as Elizabeth Mary Tart . She could not be Elizabeth Tart since she does not fit the timeline. I can find no records on Elizabeth Turbeville. However, this Elizabeth is the mother of children #2 David W Perritt b. 1845 and #3 Elizabeth T Perritt b. 1846. This Elizabeth may also be the mother of Ferdinand (above), and the Nancy Ellis entry on his death certificate may be incorrect.

Next is Mary Campbell 29 Jun 1832-13 Feb 1863 daughter of Jeremiah Campbell and Patience Scott. She is believed to be the mother of children #4 S J Perritt - female b. 1850, #5 Helen M Perritt b. 1854, #6 Evander Jeremiah Perritt 9 Jun 1857-19 Aug 1916, #7 Washington A Perritt 1 Jan 1859-1 Nov 1914 FindaGrave Memorial, #8 Millicent Perritt b. 1860, and #9 T F Perritt - male b. 13 Feb 1863. Mary died in childbirth with T F.

After Mary is Annis Campbell 9 Oct 1832-15 Sep 1901 daughter of James Campbell and Mary Barnes. Annis is the mother of #10 Fletcher Perritt b. 1865, #11 Connolly Perritt b. 1868, and #12 Hettie Florence Perritt 5 Apr 1872-2 Nov 1959 wife of Stephen Thomas Perritt, her first cousin. Her parents are not listed on her death certificate.

Lastly is Joanna Josephine Holden b. Jan 1852 daughter of Joseph W Holden and Ethelinda. Mother of #13 Lebanon Perritt - female b. Jun 1873, #14 Laura E Perritt b. Apr 1876, #15 Josephine Perritt b. Jun 1880, and #16 Cora Perritt 17 Aug 1888-10 Dec 1928 wife of Marion Thaddeus Barnhill.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jesse by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jesse:

This profile was created in error and is pending a merge into Perritt-224. I must have missed the match due to the birthdates being several decades apart.
Perritt-227 and Perritt-224 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! I wrote a lengthy bio on Jesse B Perritt as I am having trouble sorting out his wives and children. He appears to be your ancestor, and is the father of Evander Jeremiah Perritt. If you can correct or add to the bio after the merge, I would appreciate it. Only one of the children listed in the bio (Hettie) has a profile. Shoot me a message if you have and ?'s Thanks! Karen
