Biography

Private Needham Perritt served in the United States in the War of 1812
Service started: Sep 03, 1814
Unit(s):
Service ended: Apr 05, 1815

Needham Perritt was born in Marion, South Carolina[1] on June 11th 1794.[2][3] He was the son of William Perritt and Priscilla.

On September 3, 1814, at the age of 21, Needham enlisted in the military for a 5-year term or for the duration of the war (War of 1812). At the time of his enlistment, he is described as being 5'7" tall with dark hair and eyes and a dark complexion. He enlisted as a Private under Captain T J Robison in Regiment of Riflemen. The enlisting officer was Leuit. G. Crawford. He was discharged on April 5, 1815 in N. Washington at the end of his term. He later applied and recieved a pension. [4]

Needham first married Citsy Bryant, second to Rosanna Hungerpillar-Till, third to Lou Vicey Paulk-Worlds. Needham married his second wife, Rosanna Hungerpillar, who was the widow of Daniel Till in about 1848.[5] His third marriage occured on April 22nd 1869 in Butler County, Alabama. Lou Vicey (Vicey) was a widow and her previous married name according to marriage documents was Worlds.[6] This may be a misspelling of the name as on Needham's probate records, Vicey's children's surnames are listed as Worl. [7] On her daughter Siller's marriage documents her surname is listed as Worrel.[8]

On October 1, 1835, Needham purchased 40.34 acres of land under the 1820 Land Act through the Cahaba Land Office in Alabama. This land was located in Butler County, Alabama. [9]

Needham Perritt passed away on November 26th 1880 in Greenville, Alabama at the age of about 86 years of age. At the time of his death, he was living in a household with his third wife Luvicey and her three children from a previous marriage. [10][11] [12] His wife continued to receive a widow's pension after his death for his service in the War of 1812. [13] [14] He was buried in the Mount Olive East Cemetery in Greenville, Alabama. [15]

Slave Owner

Needham had one slave in the 1850 census. He was a male of about 26 years of age [16] He does not appear to own any slaves in 1860.
