Nathaniel's parents, John Perry (b. 1667) and Sarah (Hill) Perry, both died about 1698. Nathaniel was put in the Guardianship of his grandfather, John Perry (b. 1639), husband of Bethia (Morse) Perry. The Guardianship records filed with the Middlesex County Probate Court state that in 1699 Nathaniel was about 7 years old. The Sherborn, MA Vital Records report that John Perry and Sarah (Hill) Perry had a son named Nathaniel born on 23 July 1692. In addition to being Guardian of his grandson, John (b. 1639) was the Administrator for the estate of John (b. 1667) and Sarah, both deceased. There is no mention of their daughter, Hannah (b. 1694). She appears to have died before 1699, but her death is not listed in the Sherborn, MA Vital Records.
John Perry (b. 1639) and Bethia did have a son named Nathaniel born in 1671 in Medfield, MA. But the Sherborn, MA Vital Records reports that Nathaniel, son of John, died on 28 January 1684. This Nathaniel must be the son of John (b. 1639) since John (b. 1667) was not married until about 6 years later. Note that Sherborne was confirmed as a town by the General Court in 1684 and later was renamed as Sherborn.
The will of John Perry (b. 1639) was written in 1712 at the age of “neere seventy three years”. He had 3 children living at that time: Samuel, Joseph, and Bethia. In the eventual estate settlement he instructs his 3 children to pay money to his grandchildren,
Nathaniel (son of John (b. 1667)) and Eleazer (son of Eleazer). He also mentions his son-in-law, Aaron Morse, husband of his daughter, Bethiah. This will is reported in the Middlesex County Probate records for Sherborn, MA in 1713.
Other sources, mostly provided by ancestry.com claim that John was born in Sherborn, MA. This is highly suspect since Sherborn is a small semi-rual community located about 18 miles southwest of Boston, settled in 1652 and incorporated in 1674. It is unlikely that John was born in an unsettled wilderness, especially when reliable sources say he was born in Roxbury, MA. Ancestry prints much of what unreliable customers submit.
