Biography

Will

He wrote his will on 14 Apr 1806 and it was proven on 26 Apr 1806. He mentions his son Josiah, daughters Peggy Starke and Anne Harrison, granddaughter Harriet Perry, grandson Jackey Perry, along with William Kirkland and Perry Collins.[1]

Transcript: Will of James Perry In the name of God Amen, I James Perry of Kershaw District being weak in body, but of sound memory, Blessed be Good, do this Fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Eight Hundred and six, Make and Publish this my last Will and Testament. In manner following (that is to say first I give to my Beloved son Josiah Perry, the Plantation whereon he did live on the Wateree River Containing Two Hundred Acres, Also Three Hundred Acres, more or less whereon he now lives, Also Six negroes to Wit one fellow named Jacob, one fellow named Irland, one woman named Froro, one woman named Peggy, one woman named Ferrily, and one child named Ferrily. Also I lend to my Beloved Daughter Peggy Starke, Four Negroes (viz.) one Boy named Brister, one girl named Betty, one woman named Ab, one Boy named Isaac. I also lend to my Beloved Daughter Anne Harrison Four Negroes (viz.) one Boy named Nezar, one girl named Floro, one girl named Pattey, one Boy named George, during their natural lives and then to the Heir of their Bodies. Also I lend to my grand Daughter Harriott Perry four Negroes (viz) one fellow named Simon, one Boy named Hector, one Boy named Arthur, and one Boy named Abram, during her natural life after her decease to the heirs of her body. But if the said Harriott Perry should die without heir then the said Property shall return to my family again, then and there to be equally divided amongst them. I also leave my lands where on I now live at my Decease to be sold by my Executors and Equally Divided between William Kirkland and Perry Collins. I also leave all my stock and Household Furniture and all the rest of my goods and Chattles after my Decease to be sold and the money collected by my Executors. And then and there I give to my grandson Jackey Perry one Hundred Dollars and after my Just Debts is paid the Balance of said money to be Equally Divided Amongst my children. And I make and ordain and Beloved Son Josiah Perry and my nephew Zadok Perry Sole Executors of this my last will. In trust for the Intent and Purposes in this in this my last will Contained.
