John Alfred Perry was born on 12 January 1912 in Hunterville, Manawatu-Wanganui, his father, John, was 34 and his mother, Lucy, was 28. He had two sons with Nancy Jean Davidson. He died on 21 July 1993 in Australia at the age of 81, and was buried in Hamilton, Waikato.
