Obituary: John F. Perry, one of the best known residents of Narragansett Pier, died on Tuesday afternoon [7 July 1908] after an illness of but a few days as the result of a complication of diseases. The deceased was born in Charlestown fifty-four years ago and was a son of Samuel Perry. In early life he became interested in trotting horses and had bred and owned some fast ones. About twenty-eight years ago he established a bottling business at the Pier, which he conducted up to the time of his death. He was also engaged in the liquor saloon business. For several years past it has been his custom to pass the winters in Florida, where he owned a place at Eaugallie. He leaves a widow but no children. He is also survived by his mother and a brother, William Perry of Charlestown. The funeral services will be held at noon this Friday [10 July 1908] from his late residence. The burial will be in Westerly. Rev. W.H.B. Allen will officiate.[3]
