Biography

John Perry was christened the 18th of March 1581 in Saint Petrock, England. He was the son of Richard Perry and an unknown wife.[1]

The book "Perry of London: A Family and a Firm on the Seaborne Frontier, 1615-1753" Author: Jacob M Price is an amazingly well researched and sourced book about this family, it is far from the typical "vanity publication" of unsourced family lore. Unfortunately it cannot be posted here due to copyright restrictions.[2] That book is the source of the numbering of Richard 1, 2 and 3 sometimes seen on the internet and the author makes it clear those numbers are just to keep the generations straight, the men at the time did not use those numbers. Much of the narrative of this bio comes from that book which has 10 pages of primary sources for Richard I, II and III and for this John, son of Richard Perry 1.

John and his brother Richard were merchants and traders and partnered with a James Carter on their business in Virginia. When Carter died, John Perry traveled to Virginia apparently in the mid 1620s to oversee their business interests. John then died in Virginia, where he wrote his will in 1628.[3] The will was witnessed by William Perry who was NOT his brother, but was very likely a cousin (within a few degrees) of John. John listed his brother Richard (back in London) as his executor. The will is transcribed here

John listed no wife or children, there is no record of either. He did bequeath to his cousin Ruth (Perry) White, sister of William Perry of Limerick and administratrix of William's will. The William Perry who witnessed John's will in Virginia is believed by Jacob Price to be a more distant possible cousin from the Buckland Monarchorum branch of the family who had come to Virginia in 1611 and served in the House of Burgesses and Council.

Perry-5451 and Perry-4973 appear to represent the same person because: dups of John Perry son of Richard, born 1581, died c. 1629 in Virginia. Now sourced.

There are some issues with dates on this profile. Parents were born a century before this person. Without sources, it is hard to tell if it is a typo or an error.
