OBITUARY.
WILLIAM BENJAMIN PERRY.
William Benjamin Perry, aged about 75, died at his residence iu Mosman yesterday afternoon. The late Mr. Perry has long been known in the Western Districts, in which he has built up a reputation as a sound and successful grazier.
Beginning as a trader in a small way, he, by wonderful foresight and wisdom in business, acquired area after area of grazing property, which he managed with marked success. "Compton," in the Narromine district, was his first holding. Then, piecemeal, he acquired the famous estate, "Fairview," also in the Narromine district. Later he sold "Fairview" to Messrs. Gillespie Bros., who cut the property up into tho present holdings. Later acquirements of grazing property were 'Belaringar, " "North and South," and the extensive area comprised in Gunningar," near Warren. To these he 'added "Sunnyvale."
Some years back Mr. Perry formed his grazing properties into a company, W. B. Perry and Sons, Ltd., retaining the managing directorship for life. There has, perhaps, been no better example in the history of all the Western districts of the unaided success that may be reached by a man of wisdom and foresight, than that shown by the career of the late Mr. Perry. He was a man always ready to take a legitimate risk in business; but only after personal consideration of all the facts of the case that he was dealing with. He never bought a property or a line of sheep without first inspecting for himself, and being ready with all arrangements for completion.
In character Mr. Perry was most unostentatious and simple in every way of life, and his memory is that of a good man, who served his day and his generation in business with a fer-vent spirit and unassuming manner.
Mr. Perry is survived by his widow, four sons and four daughters. The sons are Thomas E. Perry, of Narramine Station; Leonard J. Perry, late of Maroondah (Trangie); George J. Perry, of Gunningbar; and James R. Perry, of Belaringar. The daughters are Mrs. Grace Webb, Mrs. E. A. Ferguson, (Sydney), Mrs. Wilkins (Sydney), and Miss Eunice Perry. The funeral took place this afternoon in Sydney.

THE LATE MR. WILLIAM BENJAMIN PERRY,
In Memory of Whom the New Hall was Erected.
Mr. Perry died at his private residence, 'Trelawney,' Mosman on Thursday, July. 26, 1828, at the age of 83 years. He was a most successful western grazier, and the story of his success in life is one of the most suggestive in the history of individual Australian effort. Through his own endeavours, perspicacity and grim determination, he eventually became one of Australia's largest graziers. His first purchase was Compton, then by degrees he acquired Fairview, Narramine, Dalringa north, Dalringa south, Gunningbar, Sunnyvale, and other properties. To a large measure it is due to the late Mr. Perry that the wool trade in Australia is now one of our richest industries. In all the history of the West there has been no better example of unaided progress than that showed by the late Mr. Perry, and it is really only his family and intimate friends who really know how successful he was in life and how he helped others on the road to success. He detested publicity of any kind and his memory is that of a good man who served his generation and country to great advantage. It is only right that Narromine should commemorate such an outstanding personality.
