Biography

Moses Perry was born December 20, 1714, the son of Samuel Perry and Sarah Leonard of Sandwich, Mass[1] [2] [3] [4],

On November 10th 1743, he married Eleanor Ellis, daughter of Gideon[5] [3] [4] [6] , and their children included:

  1. Prince, born November 3, 1744 in Sandwich, who married Mercy Cobb and Elizabeth Gross [3] [4]
  2. Rebecca, born March 19, 1748, who married Philip Ellis, the son of Benjamin November 20, 1771 [3] [4], and who died in 1829[6]
  3. Sarah, born May 27, 1750 [3] [4], who married Capt. Alexander Bain 1st on December 12, 1774, and who died in 1801[6]
  4. Moses, born August 30, 1752, who died before 1761 [3] [4]
  5. Thomas, born May 4, 1755 [3] [4], who married Elizabeth Trask, daughter of Ellas Trask 1st, on August 27, 1778, and who died in May 1803[6]
  6. Joseph, born November 7, 1756 [3] [4]
  7. Nathaniel, born June 24, 1759 [3] [4], who married Lydia Tinkham, daughter of Edward on May 3, 1787, and then married Sarah Dennis, daughter of Capt. Ambrose on May 1, 1796[6]
  8. Anna, born September 27, 1762, the first child to be born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[4], who married Capt. Silas Clements, son of Capt John on December 21, 1784, and who died Jan 14, 1846 [3] [6]
  9. Elisha, born 1765[4], who married Sarah Perry of Cape Negro on May 1, 1788, and who died April 22, 1828 [3] [6]
  10. Levi, born 1766[4], who married Susanna Magray, daughter of Capt. John on May 22, 1792 [3] [6]

Moses Perry sailed the first settlers ("the little schooner Pompey") into Chebogue Harbor on Tue. 9 June 1761, and established the settlement of Yarmouth, NS with his family and those of Sealed Landers and Ebenezer Ellis[7] [8] [6] [9] [3]

Moses Perry died November 13, 1811, at age 87 [3] [4] [6], and was buried in Chebogue Cemetery in Rockville[10]
