Obituary: Knoxville Standard for Jan 13, 1846:
Jesse Perry died at his residence in Knox Co. Tenn on Wed Dec 31, 1845. Native of S.C. during the Revolution he participated actively in the struggle of that period and contributed by his service in the Army drive the enemy from S.C. and to effect the final establishment of the independence of this country.
At a early period he emigrated to middle Tenn whilst yet a frontier settlement, about 1803 he removed to Knox county where he has since resided.
He has always maintained the character of a honest man, a quiet and unoffensive citizen and a good patriot. He died with the hope of a Christian to cheer him in the passage through the dark valley of the shadow of death. He feared no evil the rod and staff of his God still comforted him. For several years he had been a member of the Presbyterian Church; but his infirmities of age have for some time back prevented his public ordinance. Those of a private nature he valued and enjoyed highly. His aged widow and grieving friends have the consolation of believing that he has now joined the spirits of the "just made perfect" and that he has entered upon his reward on high.
