VIOLET BELLE PERRY LONG SHAW ROTHMEIER, daughter of Simon Perry and Cora Belle Stoddard of Akron, NY, was born 7 October 1883 at Akron, NY. She had one brother, Frank Dallas Perry (1887 - 1966).
When Violet was 7, her father, Simon Perry, a baggage master, was "pinched" between cars in a train accident. He died on the 26th of September 1891.
Violet's mother married secondly Frank A. Long, and Violet thus acquired a step-brother, Bernard Long. The Long family reportedly moved to Lockport, NY, when Violet was 11 years old (ca. 1894).
At age 17 Violet found herself with a new half-brother, Marion D. Long (1900 -15 Aug. 1925), the only child of Frank A. Long and Cora B. Stoddard Perry.
On 11 November 1903, age 20, Violet married Robert Harper Shaw III, son of Robert Harper Shaw and Florence Emma Moss. and by him had issue: Mildred Belle Shaw (b. 10 December 1905) and Robert Perry Shaw (b. 12 February 1915).
Violet's first husband, Robert Harper Shaw III, was a barber by trade. On a snowy day in the winter of 1924 to 1925, he volunteered to help a friend by filling in as a brakeman on board a train. He fell, his leg was seriously injured, and after surgery he died 4 December 1925, when Violet was 42.
At age 47, on 20 October 1930, Violet Belle Perry Long Shaw married secondly John C. "Jack" Rothmeier, a tree surgeon, at Lockport. They had no children, and the 1940 census shows that Violet's mother, Cora, lived with them until her death in 1955.
The Lockport New York Union Sun & Journal for 29 December 1949 indicates on page 4, in the Personals section, that Mr. and Mrs. Albert Shernick of Denver, Colorado and their two sons "have returned home after visiting Mrs. Shernick's mother, Mrs. J.C. Rothmeier of 4 Harvey Ave. over the Christmas holidays."
Violet made a trip to Denver in the early 1950s to visit with her daughter, Mildred (Shaw) Shernick, and to see her two grandsons. Mildred's family also paid occasional summer visits to Lockport during the 1950s.
In 1960 the Rothmeiers retired to Orlando, Florida.
Violet Belle Perry Long Shaw Rothmeier died at Orlando, Florida, on 23 July 1967. The following obituary was clipped from an unknown Lockport newspaper by her daughter:
GM AIDE'S MOTHER DIES

"Mrs. Rothmeier, the daughter of Simon D. and Cora B. Perry, was born in Akron. She came to Lockport at the age of 11 and lived here continuously until moving to Orlando in 1960.
"The funeral will be held Wednesday, at the Fairchild Funeral Home, Orlando. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, Orlando."
