Biography

Ulysses "Lyss" Peters was born in 1886, [1] the son of Wesley Consider Peters and Mary Sophronia York. [2] [3]

He married on 21 Feb 1909 at Morgan County, Tennessee to Orlena Olive Albertson, widow of John Melvin Hull. [4] They resided at Morgan County, Lenoir City, and Knoxville, where they raised their four sons: [5] [6] [7]

  1. Wesley Nelson, b. 12 Mar 1910
  2. Warren Osmer, b. 25 Apr 1912
  3. Eston Marvin, b. 15 Feb 1914
  4. Salon Donley, b. 12 Mar 1916
Lena's son by her first husband, Benjamin Hull, resided with them in 1910

Lyss registered for the World War I draft on 05 Jan 1917 at the age of 30 at Loudon County, Tennessee. His registration card shows his residence as 1st Avenue, Lenoir City, Tennessee, with a wife and five children; and shows his occupation as a molder for Lenoir Car Works. [1]

By 1920, census records show Lyss and Lena residing at 644 Galbraith Avenue, Knoxville, and Lyss working as a railway shop carpenter. [6]

After Lena died, Lyss married on 20 Dec 1921 at Loudon County to Rosa Phibbs. [8] and they had a son:

5. Robert Lee, b. 16 Sep 1930, d. 22 Aug 1931 [9]

In 1930, Lyss at age 44 and Rosa at age 34, resided at 920 Brown Avenue, Knoxville with Lyss's four sons, ages 14-20, and Rosa's son Carroll, age 14, by her first husband, Raymond Price. [7]

No 1940 census entry could be found for them, but by 1950, they resided at 815 McMinn Street, Knoxville with their two grandsons Ray and Carroll [10] (probably Wesley's sons).

Lyss passed away on 27 Apr 1968 at Lenoir City, Tennessee [3] and was buried at Lenoir City Cemetery in Loudon County, Tennessee. [11]
