The family migrated from Flanders (present day N-E France) to Kent, England in the third exodus of Walloons (French speaking Protestants} around 1600 and eventually anglicised surname.
The family is from La Gorghe (aka Gorgue or Gorne) formerly a town in Flanders - now 25km west of present day Lille in the north of France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. Michel de la Pierre migrated to England, arriving in Dover in 1635 aged 29 years old. Michel was the son of Louis de la Pierre and Jeanne de Guiselin. [1]
Father Edward anglicised his surname from de la Pierre to Peters; Edward's father was Pierre de la Pierre son of Michel de la Pierre (born 1606) and nephew of Pierre de la Pierre (M.D.).
