Obituary

Deane Gregory (Greg) Peters, born 4-21-1932 in Glencoe, MN, died 11-22-2014 in Burnsville, MN. Parents were Henry (Hap) and Agnes (Moravek) Peters.

Greg grew up in Glencoe surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. After high school graduation in 1950 he attended St. John's University and the University of Minnesota for 2 years. In 1952 he joined the Navy where he became a pilot and was stationed in many different places including Bermuda, Hawaii and many other South Pacific Islands. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander before leaving active duty in 1964. He stayed in the Navy Reserves and was a Commander when he was discharged after 21 years of military service.

In November of 1964 he joined Douglas Aircraft Co. where he was sent to Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands where he flew missions while working on the Nike X project. In 1967 Greg returned to Minnesota and bought a town home in Apple Valley. He joined Northwestern National Life Insurance Co. in downtown Minneapolis as a computer programmer until he retired in 1998. Greg made many cherished friends at NNLI, going to ball games, the Guthrie Theater, Orchestra Hall, etc, etc, etc. He enjoyed belonging to Fort Snelling Officers Club and the Apple Valley American Legion. Greg loved art shows, music, and flowers. His patio was a burst of color and the house filled to the brim with plants of all kinds like his beloved Pacific islands.

Greg had a series of health problems at which time he asked his cousins Ron and Vera Klein to oversee his affairs. After a stroke in 2007 he moved to Emerald Crest Memory Care in Burnsville.

Greg is survived by cousins, Arlene Wendolek, Jim Ryan, Lenoard Ford, Ron and Eileen Pulkrabek, Ron and Vera Klein and many other relatives and friends. Greg was a kind, loving, gentle man. Polite to the end. He will be greatly missed.

Memorial Mass, 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 County Road 42, Burnsville, with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery. [1]
