Obituary

Barbara Ann Peters Jackson, 63, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino due to natural causes.

Barbara was born Sept. 30, 1951, to Beulah Shirley Oatman and Ernest Lucas Peters in The Dalles, Ore. She completed her education in the Kooskia school system. She married Roger Lewis Jackson Sr. on March 14, 1972, in Kooskia. Before and after her marriage, she worked tagging for the Nez Perce Tribe Fisheries' Kooskia Fish Hatchery, along with her mother, Beulah Oatman and Darla Jackson. After houses were built she worked on the cleanup crew for Nez Perce Tribal Housing. She was an active member of and co-chaired the Johnson O'Malley Program for the Kooskia School District. Barbara also traveled throughout the Northwest to Indian youth conferences and was a member of the 7 Drums.

She is survived by her husband, Roger L. Jackson at the family home in Kooskia; daughter Erica L. Jackson of Wapato, Wash.; grandchildren Samantha G. George, Ezra L. Broncheau, Waleena R. Broncheau and Brentiyah D.A. Broncheau, all of Kamiah; son and daughter-in-law Roger L. Jackson Jr. and Andrea L. Jackson, and grandchildren Darius C. Jackson, Donovan E. Jackson, Aaliya V. Jackson and Justin T. Jackson, all of Wapato, Wash.; daughter Jamie L. Jackson and grandchildren Tiara S.A. Palmer and Talen L.F. Palmer, all of the family home; sisters LaDonna R. Gibson of Kamiah and Marilyn S. Peters of Kooskia; and brothers Harold Jerome (Grizz) Walker Jr. of Kamiah, Troy L. Walker of Kooskia, Gary L. Peters of Kooskia and Michael Forsman of Boise.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah Shirley Oatman and Ernest Lucas Peters; brother Tracey Boyd (Buzz) Walker; sisters Tamzen Alene Walker and Simone Kay Zepeda; and nephew Tiskat James Walker.

A private dressing ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Wa-A-Yas Community Center in Kamiah, with viewing to follow. Burial will be at sunrise Thursday at Nicodemus Cemetery in Kooskia. Allen (Hodge) Slickpoo Jr. will officiate. [1]
