Note: From the notes of his son, Alfred, Jacob joined the Germa
n army at an early age, and became an Officer. He was invo
lved in the second Franco-Prussian War, and was head of a g
roup that help to take Paris.
Alfred's notes also say that he emigrated to the USA when w
e was still young, landing in Maqueta, Iowa where there wa
s a German population. We worked in a general store as th
e janitor and night watchman. Eventually he became the boo
k keeper. Some years later he became a book keeper for th
e First National Bank of Lyons, Iowa. Eventually he advanc
ed to the position of President of the bank.
In 1901 he was a cashier at the First National Bank in Clin
ton,Clinton Co,Iowa. He was also listed as treasurer of th
e Lyons Savings Bank in 1901. I don't know which one is co
rrect.
In 1920 all of the children still lived at home in Clinton
, Iowa. He is a bank president, and all four sons are bank
ers, too. The Federal Census says that he arrived in the U
SA in 1872 (when he would have been 24 years old).
In 1925 in the Iowa State Census Jacob, Mathilde and daught
er Emma are in Lyons, Clinton, Iowa.
In 1928 he was President of the State Bank of Issaquah, Was
hington, his son Alfred was the Cashier, and another son Wa
lter was the Assistant Cashier.
In 1935 when his sister, Mathilda Peters Rohwedder died, h
e was the only surviving Peters sibling. He lived in Clint
on, Iowa at that time.
In 1940 they live in Clinton, Iowa. Jacob is 92 and Mathil
de is 79.
