Biography

Gilbert was born between 1828 and 1830. He was the son of Étienne Pitre and Marie Doiron. According to the 1901 Census, Gilbert was born on 6 Jan 1830 in Prince Edward Island (probably Hope River).[1] However, the 1911 census lists his birthdate as Jan 1828 and his age as 83.[2] Lastly, the 1881 Census lists his age as 52 which would approximate his year of birth as 1829. [3]

Gilbert married his first wife, Luce Doiron, on January 25, 1853.[4] [5] Her name has also been spelled Lucy and Lucey.

Gilbert married his second wife, Charlotte Gallant, on September 20, 1892.[6]

Gilbert passed away sometime after 1911. The 1911 Census of Canada was the last evidence showing he was still alive.[2]
