According to his obituary he served 19 years in US Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Korea as a captain in the intelligence corps.
Howard died at the age of 41 years in an automobile accident on 3 Nov 1955 in Springfield, Robertson, Tennessee. At the time of Howard's untimely death he was living in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and working as a research chemist for Temco. He had received his A.B. and M.A. in chemical engineering at Purdue University.
He was laid to rest at Forrestville Cemetery in Summitville, Madison County, Indiana.
