Henry Martin Joachin Petersen was born 6th December 1847 in Hamburg, Deutschland. [1]
Emigration to Australia. According to his Naturalization application, Henry had arrived in Australia from Quebec, Canada, in 1871 per the ship Siam, disembarking at Sandridge, Port Melbourne. He worked with the railways for four years (North Eastern line, 3 years, and a year in Tasmania main line). He settled in Victoria, with the 37 years up to 1914 spent in Prahran.
The ship Siam, from Quebec, arrived in the Port Phillip Heads on 13th January 1871. [2]
Marriage. He married Sarah Mary Ann Corney on 2 August 1877 in Windsor, Victoria, Australia. [3]
Naturalization. In 1914, H.M.J. Petersen applied to become an Australian citizen. Henry said he had eight children: two sons and six daughters. He had one son in Brighton, a daughter in Tasmania, and the rest at home. He worked as a builder's laborer.
Martin lived at 23 James Street, Windsor, at the time, and had lived there for the previous seven years. He signed his oath of allegiance on 25th September 1914, as Martin Petersen. [6]
Death. Martin died on 13 December 1936 at 21 Odessa Street in St Kilda, Victoria, aged 88 years.[7]
