Biography
Shorey Peterson was born in 1897 near Garretson, South Dakota. Around 1902 the family moved to Montague, Michigan (a farm overlooking White Lake) and into nearby Muskegon in about 1913. Shorey attended Albion College. He married Eleanor Shipp in 1923. He earned a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Michigan and taught there for 45 years, except for time in Washington, D.C., during World War II. Shorey and Eleanor had two children. They lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan; he died there in 1981 and Eleanor in 1988. They are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor.
