Jacob was born in 1762 in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Sylvanus Peterson and Sarah (Philips) Peterson.

He married Betsey Turner on 2 Mar 1785 in Pembroke MA.

He died on 27 Nov 1833 in Massachusetts.
