Darlene Louisa Peterson was born in Illinois. Her father Anders (Andrew) immigrated from Sweden as a young man and her mother Emilie was born in Illinois to Swedish immigrants, Carl Magnus and Katherine Lovisa (Damm) Skolds. Darlene had one brother George Turner who was known as Turner. She grew up in the Princeton area and in 1905 married farmer, Bert Elmer Hadley of Osco, Illinois. They had one son Maurice and were expecting another child when Bert died in January, 1907. Family stories relate that Darlene was invited to stay in Osco and be supported by Bert's mother Julia, but she chose to move to her parent's home. Her parents, Andrew and Emilie, her brother Turner and her grandfather Skolds had recently immigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada and her brother Turner travelled to Illinois to accompany her and Maurice to Saskatchewan. Bert Elmer (named after his father) was born in June of the same year in Dundurn, Saskatchewan where the family was homesteading. Darlene later married Jack Tobin and had three more children, Louise, Lillian and Gordon. Gordon died at a young age. Family stories relate that Darlene's father Andrew purchased a farm for Darlene and Jack. Darlene died of cancer in 1922 after a long and painful illness. She is buried in the Dundurn cemetery with many others of her family also present.
