Lucy was the daughter of Cornelius PETERSON and Cilinda LANE.
She first married Solomon RODERICK. Her children born to her first marriage were Eli, Mary, Susannah, and Solomon.
Lucy secondly married a man known as Thomas DOYLE; he had been born as Francis REED, but she never knew that. Her children born to her second marriage were Itha Elmer & Ida Ellen (twins), Amanda, and Minnie.
Lucy served as a midwife for many women in the Potomac area of Vermilion County, Illinois.
According to oral history, Lucy died as a result of a strangulated hernia. She had survived the hernia for many years. One cold winter day, she was returning home after having helped a woman give birth. There was snow on the ground, and Lucy did not see a low barbed-wire fence hidden by the snow. Lucy tripped. Her hernia once more protruded from her abdominal area. As she had done often before, she pushed it back in. Unfortunately, she twisted the hernial protrusion, and she died from a strangulated hernia. (In 1883 when Lucy died, surgeons were not yet making surgical repairs on hernias.)
