Biography

He came to Kentucky with his parents in October, 1831. He was 24 years old when his father died and he lived with his mother and helped her raise a family of eleven children. He was six feet four inches tall and weighed 185 pounds and was very straight. He was a good mechanic and always ran a mill. He served three years in the Union Army in the Cavalry and made a fine soldier. The last years of his life he lived with his widowed sister, Lottie Hannah, one mile north of Morningglory, Kentucky, and operated the old Peterson Mill. He was a blacksmith by trade. He was a great walker, as it is said that he walked nine miles after his mail. It is said he walked fifteen miles to enlist in the Union Army and joined the cavalry. He must have never tired from walking.
