Biography

Valentine Peyton was born at Nominy, Westmoreland County, Virginia in 1657 to Henry[1] and Ellen (Partington) Peyton. Valentine died in 1705 in Stafford County, Virginia.[2]

All of the lands of Henry, Valentine, and Philip Peyton lay along Aquia Creek and its branches ("Virginia Genealogies", Peyton Family, pp. 492).[3]

Valentine apparently served as Clerk of Stafford County, Virginia Court, in 1698 as there is a court document referenced in "Papers of Richard Hickman Prewitt 1833-1888", Lawyer of Lexington, Kentucky of a Berryman document dated 10 August 1698, Stafford County, which was attested by "V. Peyton C.S.C.".

The six sons of Valentine were all born before 1705, according to a gift deed from his brother Philip. In 1705, Colonel Valentine Peyton received a life estate of 50 acres of land in Stafford County, VA, by deed of gift from Philip. According to the deed Valentine Peyton seemingly had six sons born before 1705. "Philip Peyton of Stafford Co., Colony of Virginia, dated June 14,1705, in which he conveyed to Colonel Valentine Peyton of the same Colony, for 5 pounds str., and natural love and affection, fifty (50) acres of land on the South side of Potomack Run, being part of the land on which Philip Paeyton lived, for life, and at his death to the eldest male heir of Col. Valentine, and should the said heir die without lawful issue male, then to the second son of the said Valentine Peyton, and so on, down to the sixth son." (Virginia Genealogies" by Reerend Edwin Hayden, page 492).

On the Quit Rent Roll of 1723, taken from the Register of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, VA. there were Philip Peyton, 100 acres, John Peyton, 100 acres, and William Peyton with 150 acres.

I'm back to trying to sort out the Hayden-conflated Valentines (d 1751, died after 1751) and the Roberts said to be their sons

Apparently this Valentine was brother of Philip and had six sons...

Maybe three of them are Philip, John, & William? In Overwharton Parish in 1723?

Hayden (p 492) speculates that among the sons of Valentine (b 1657, died after 1705) were "Nos." 200, 201, 202 (with a son Valentine b 1749), 204, and 210:

  • 200 = William of Stafford
  • 201 = George of P.W.
  • 202 = Philip of Stafford
  • 204 = John, relocated to Amherst Co.
  • 210 = Thomas

Hayden has Henry as oldest of three brothers (Henry, Valentine, Philip) with lands "on Aquia Creek and its branches". Hayden also has them as children of Henry (d c1659).

Peyton-1102 and Peyton-91 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! These were set as a rejected merge, but they're brothers with the same dates & they look like duplicate profiles to me. Please take another look. Thanks!
