Biography

1776 Project
Major Daniel (Payton) Peyton served with Virginia during the American Revolution.

Daniel Peyton[1]

Birth

ABT 1763, Stafford, VA[2]

Marriage

Married Mary Roach (c1765-1825) on September 24, 1785, Amherst County, Virginia, his father Philip Payton and her father Ashcraft Roach gave consent.[3][4]

Death

5 MAY 1826, Jackson County, AL[2]

Notes

  • I detached Mary Magdalene Zeh-See as a wife of Daniel Payton (marriage date entered for them was August 24, 1785; no location). According to her profile, she was born 1738 and died c1785. The biography for her profile says she married Ashcraft Roach (b 1636). According to DAR records, Daniel married Mary Roach on September 24, 1785. It appears Mary (See) Roach is Daniel's mother-in-law. Also detached from her (Mary See's) profile was husband Soloman See, born 1822.
  • Information from Zeh-See-2 that wasn't hers, but maybe for Daniel's wife:
born about 1765; died about 1825, Jackson County, AL
  • A marriage date included in the profile for Mary Magdalene See clearly was not hers, but it's also not her daughter's. Maybe a daughter of Daniel and Mary (Roach) Payton?
30 Jul 1824, Amherst, Virginia[5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:

Peyton-1909 and Payton-617 appear to represent the same person because: Clear Dupe

Hi! Review by the Managed Profiles Team, US Southern Colonies Project recommended removing PPP and did not recommend that the project manage this profile, as there has been no activity warranting PPP for several years.

I remember all the work we did to get this profile where it is today, and I think that - while PPP may not be needed, I would feel better if the project was a manager (which emphasizes the need for collaboration).

What do y'all think - ok for me to add the project as a manager? Also, do you think the profile still needs to be locked (PPP)? I could go either way (maybe no problems the past several years 'because it was PPP!)

If I don't hear from you, I'll remove PPP & add the project as a manager in a few days.

Cheers, Liz

dang. thought I was on to something. But I can't find an Ashcraft Roach (father of Mary & Nancy who married this Daniel) in the trees for the Elizabeth Burks who married the other Daniel (at least, not in WikiTree).

oh hey y'all!!

Guess how had a sister named Elizabeth who married a Burks?! - Mary Roach who married Daniel!

Peyton-1098 and Peyton-1000 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate spouse of Elizabeth Burks. My error in creating Peyton-1098. Didn't see him.

ps - if you merge with Payton-617, Elizabeth Burks will need to be detached as his wife (and merged with Peyton-518's wife)

I proposed a merge with Payton-617 based on birth/death info, but it seems a different Daniel married Elizabeth Burks. Depending on whether your interest is in the Daniel who died in Alabama or the Daniel who married Elizabeth Burks, you might want to reject the merge with Payton-617 and merge this profile with Peyton-518 instead.

Peyton-1000 and Payton-617 appear to represent the same person because: born/died information for these profiles are the same. Please merge. Thanks!

my 2 cents on Payton/Peyton for Philip (Payton, I think):

Although generally Payton=England and Peyton=US for the families I've been researching, I think this American branch is Payton (primarily based on transcript of Henry Payton's pension application, who is probably the nephew of this Philip Payton).

Peyton-26 and Payton-617 appear to represent the same person because: Other than the variant spelling of Peyton, do the 2 profiles, Payton-617 and Peyton-26 not look the same to you? I see that one has been married twice while the other file has only one listed marriage, but dates and places are the same.
