Notes

I feel I would like to comment here, as although I have seen many trees with Phillip (b abt 1644 ) given as the son of Phillip b 1612 Bisley Gloucestershire, I have never seen any proof of his parentage - on the contrary I visited Gloucester Records Office some years ago and noted down baptisms for the children of Phillip from the transcripts of Bisley Baptism registers - they gave Elizabeth in 1639, Ann 1641, Mary 1643, Thomas 1646, Sara 1649, Charles 1652 and Deborah 1655, NO PHILLIP and no obvious gap.

This fits well with the earlier baptisms of children of Thomas Payton in Bisley, 1607 Elizabeth, 1608 Thomas, 1610 Samuel, 1612 Phillip and 1615 Alice.

Does anyone have a reference to a piece of documentation which states that Phillip (b abt 1644) was the son of Phillip or might he have been the son of one of his brothers Thomas or Samuel?

I have seen on-line references to the contents of a 1668 will for Phillip - I believe this will is at Gloucester Records Office, I shall attampt to get hold of a copy or visit to veiw it - unless anyone has the details?
