  • 1830 US Censuse of Orange County, IN, USA, show him, born 1800 - 1810 and wife, born 1800 - 1810. The county marriage license records show they married in 1829. They lived there and had five children in the 1830s, as seen in the 1840 US Census. The parents died in the 1840s, leaving the children living with neighbors or relatives, the Hollowells, as seen in the 1850 US census.

The 1840 US Census shows their five children: 1 male aged under 5, b. 1835-40, 2 males aged 5-10, b.1830-35, 1 male age 10-15, b. 1825-30, and 1 daughter age under 5, b. 1835-40. The 1850 gives ages of each child.

So far we don't see Matthew's father's name...

Others are also looking for this line back via KY and NC.... Quakers and others seeking to leave slave areas went north from NC and VA, etc., to the north...

Do you know if John Jr. had other children? i am searching for the parents of Matthew Peyton who married Rebecca Danner in Orange County, Indiana circa 1820. Any help would be appreciated. I know that the Danners came from N.C. via Kentucky in the early 1800's.

According to the Peyton Society of Virginia, Book II, John Jr. had confirmed sons Micajah (b 1775 in VA), Jared (b 16 Jun 1777 in VA), and Daniel (b c1785 in VA) They list John and Henry as probable, but unconfirmed, sons. They also list a child born c 1804.

The following is from Patricia "Joan" Allen, PSV genealogist:

Anyway, John, Jr.' parents were John and Susannah (Lunsford's) Peyton.

John', Sr., and his brothers, Philip, William, and Henry Peytons were together in Amherst, Virginia from 1769 until they individually left Amherst. They were the sons of Valentine Peyton of Stafford County, Va.

My Philip (1720-1795) left in 1786 for Lincoln County, Kentucky with his sons, Valentine(1749-1831), Major Daniel (1761-1826), & four daughters: Hannah, Karenhapuck, Dosha, and Bathshebat who she along with her husband, Samuel Arbuckle, are attributed to the founding of Lawrenceburg, Ky., which at that time was Franklin Co., Ky, but now in Anderson Co., Ky) That is, across the river from Frankfort, Ky.)

Your John, Jr., left in 1793, as did my James Peyton, & Gustavius Peyton, for Lincoln County, Ky., but John, Jr.,went onto Franklin County, Ky. There is where Micajah was married, and also Jared was married before going onto Indiana. I believe but not proven so not in the Peyton data base is a sister who married there also.

I pick up John, and his daughter, Charlotte, along with Micajah's wife, Christina with nick name of "Teeny" in the Baptist Church records That area is now, Anderson County, Ky., however, all records are in Franklin County, Ky

Valentine Peyton (1786-1749+) of Stafford Co., Va. & Sarah (believed to be Sarah Randolph, but not proven), as mentioned above was the father of: Philip, John, William, and Henry Peytons.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Thank You for the info. I will keep searching and the process of elimination is a big part of that. In the early 1800's families followed each other. so I assume that my Peyton line came thru N.C. to Kentucky to Indiana. I don't believe my line is recorded in any of the "Peyton" books. Matthew and Rebecca (Danner) Peyton's children were James, Green B(my GGGrandfather), Cathrine, William, Zebulon and Daniel Boone Peyton and all born in Orange County, Indiana between 1820 and 1847, according to my research.
