77, of Terra Alta, died Friday March 4, 2011, at
Heartland of Preston County, Kingwood, WV.
He was born April 23, 1933 in Independence, a son
of the late William U. Phillips, Sr. and Margaret L.
Weaver Phillips.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from the
B&O Railroad after 17 years, and then retired from the
U.P.S., Cumberland after 17 years. Bill was a member of
the Lions Club, Town Council, a Charter member of the
Terra Alta Betterment Committie, and a member of the
Terra Alta Moose Lodge. He intiated the "Day In The
Park" on the 4th of July and helped establish the
Veterans Memorial Site in Terra Alta. He had a love of
antique cars.
He is survived by his wife, Janet R. Phillips; two
step-sons and spouses, Michael and Barbara Clark of
Wiley Ford, WV and Donald and Lisa Clark of
Cumberland, MD; three step-daughters and spouses,
Tracie and Harold Harshberger of Falling Waters, WV,
Brenda and Tom Teets of Arthurdale and Kim and Joe
Powell of Accident, MD; two brothers and spouses,
George M. and Vicki Phillips of Jacksonville, FL and
Richard A. and Janice Phillips of Lovettsville, VA; a
sister and spouse, Wilma J. and Carl Upole of Lavalle,
MD; an aunt, Mildred Ward of Independence; mother-
in-law, Anna Lee Reckart of Terra Alta; 10
grandchildren; and two special caregivers, Brenda
Teets and Joe Powell.
Friends will be recieved at the Arthur H. Wright
Funeral Home, Terra Alta on Monday from 7-9:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be Tuesday March 8, 2011 at
12:00 noon with Pastor Timothy J. Kelley officiating.
Burial will follow in The Terra Alta Cemetery.
