Biography

Lillian married John in the parlor of the Phillips home in Allen. She continued to help her father with the family store in Allen after she married John, and following the death of her father. She assumed full responsibility for the business until 1946 when she sold it and moved with her family to the Shivers farm near Allen.

Following their marriage, George and Emma lived on a farm in Somerset County, Maryland. Their first child was born while they were at the farm, but passed away at 3 years of age. They, then, moved from the farm to a lot in the village of Allen. They built a new home which contained both a store and their residence. They lived there and raised their 2 other daughters there until George's death in 1933.
