William and Angeline had 7 children: Asa Asbury Leaird 1850, Thomas T. Leaird 1852, Samantha Catherine Leaird 1856, Sarah Jane Leaird 1859, Elva Ann Leaird 1863, Mary Malinda Leaird 1866, and Levina Louise Leaird 1868.
Some online sources have W. J. Lard married to Angeline R. Plumly in 1848 - perhaps due to the recorder's error in spelling and/or handwriting. There are more reliable sources that have Angeline's maiden name as Phillips or Philips. She was just 17 years old when she married, and perhaps she had an earlier marriage to a man with the surname Plumly, but censuses have no record of it.
The family lived in Franklin County until after their daughter, Sarah, was born. In the 1860 Census of Anson County, the family was found in Lanesboro Township, North Carolina.
There is a multi-page account of William's service in the Confederate Army, pages 488-499.
