Biography

Between July 1870 and September 1872, Isaac moved from Iowa to Michigan.

Isaac married Mary Elmira Montle on September 22, 1872 at Geneva, Tuscola County, Michigan, as evidenced by their 'Certificate of Marriage'. Isaac's surname on the certificate was 'Philips'. Isaac was aged 25 and born in Pennsylvania. Mary was aged 17 and born in Michigan. Both list their residence as Wisner Township, Tuscola County, Michigan. They were married by a minister named D. Leonard. One of the witnesses was Emma Leonard, possibly being the minister's wife. It is interesting that the other witness was Sarah Phillips. Sister-in-law perhaps?

In 1880 Isaac, a farmer aged 34, was in Thetford Township, Genesee County, Michigan with wife Mary and 2 children, Thomas Alfred, aged 6, and Charles Daniel, aged 4.

At some point, between 1880 and 1900, Isaac moved his family to Swan Creek Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. In the 1900 U.S. Census for Swan Creek, Thomas Alfred and Charles Daniel were not in the household. Isaac and Mary had 3 resident children, Elisabeth aged 14, Esther aged 12, and William aged 7. No records for Samuel, Arthur, nor Bissie are found.

The 1910 U.S. Census for St. Charles, Saginaw County, Michigan shows Isaac, aged 64, and Mary E. (incorrectly recorded as Marie), aged 56. Also in St. Charles were their son-in-law, Guy Burch, aged 24, and their daughter, Esther, aged 21. Guy and Esther were expecting the birth of their first child, Lillian E. Burch, born December 1910.

Mary, Guy, Esther and Lillian E. were next found in the 1911 Canada Census in Saskatchewan, living with Thomas Alfred. Isaac, presumably, remained in Michigan until his death.
