EXERPT FROM A HISTORY OF TUCKER COUNTY" Page 473:"Hiram Phillips was born in 1826, in Barbour County, VA (WV, USA), son of William; lives on a farm of 165 acres, with 60 acres improved, on Black Fork, 7 miles from St. George (Tucker County, VA (WV, USA); been in the county since 1849, and has caught two bears. In 1849, he married Mary, daughter of Sara Sargent, of Preston County (VA, (WV, USA). Children: Sarah M., Susan E., William, L., Henry G., James A., Harriett, Draper C., Teretha, Anna F., Walter C., Ida J., and Haymond H.; he works in the cooper business to some extent.[1]
