Biography

Nathaniel Phillips was born on 11 February 1704/05, Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, and was probably named for an uncle of his mother (Nathaniel French). He was married on 07 February 1727, Freetown?, Massachusetts, to Mercy Briggs (b. 26 June 1706, Freetown, Bristol County, Massachusetts), daughter of Amos Briggs and Sarah Paine. [1]

(1) Nathaniel Jr. (b. 23 August 1729, Berkley, Massachusetts); married 13 December 1750, to Mary Pitts.

(2) Phebe (b. 05 November 1733, Berkley, Massachusetts).

(3) Mercy (b. 20 May 1736, Berkley, Massachusetts; d. 15 October 1815, Ashfield, Massachusetts); married (1st) 25 December 1756, to George Reed, and they had one son; married (2nd) to G. Sanford.

(4) Ralph (b. 25 August 1738, Berkley, Massachusetts); married Deborah Ingalls.

(5) Rachel (b. 30 June 1740, Berkley, Massachusetts); married (1st) James Harvey; married (2nd) to Job Dean.

(6) Charity (b. 29 December 1743, Berkley, Massachusetts; d. 25 March 1784, Dighton, Massachusetts); married 22 September 1763, Taunton, Massachusetts, to Loved Reed.

(7) Stephen (b. 22 June 1746, Berkley, Massachusetts; living 1779); unmarried.

(8) Samuel (b. 24 May 1750, Berkley, Massachusetts); married to Elizabeth Clemons.
