Biography

Morgan Phillips was born about 1540.

In 1573, Morgan was executor and a major beneficiary of the will of his brother William. [1]He succeeded to the family estates in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

After the dissolution of his marriage to the wife of William Scourfield, Morgan Philipps married Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Fletcher, registrar of Bangor. [2]

He was sheriff of Pembrokeshire in 1576.

He had his will drawn up on 21 Jun 1585, making bequests to:

  • son and heir John Phillips
  • son Owen Phillips
  • son Alban Phillips
  • son Thomas Phillips
  • son William Phillips
  • son Harry Phillips
  • son John Phillips the younger
  • my daughters Jenett, Margaret and Cicely
  • my brother William's base born children John, Jane and Elziabeth Phillips
  • friend and kinsman Richard Phillips, Esq of Carmathen
  • kinsman Symon Phillips, Esq of Cardigan

He died in 1585 and his will was probated on 5 Aug 1585. [3]

Jane Phillips, a daughter on this profile has a duplicate of herself on this profile. I was going to try to merge, but did a match instead as the two girls, while having the same father, have different mothers. Thanks!
