Not a son of John Phillips and Elizabeth (Griffith) Phillips. Please do not reattach
John was born in 1530 in Harewood, Yorkshire, England. [1]
Notes for finding sources, information from Ancestry trees - John appears on several hundred Ancestry trees with birth 1530 at Harewood or similar. The majority show him as the son of John Phillips and Elizabeth Griffith, which is not correct according to the note above. Some show him born at Harewood, Yorkshire, some at Hereford, and some at Harewood, Herefordshire, which seems to have been the place originally intended.
A smaller group of Ancestry trees show him as the son of Christopher Phillips (who is said to be born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and died in Milton, Hampshire, England - the latter may be a mistake for Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire). Two sources are shown, but one is for the baptism of a daughter Rachel on 5 February 1664 at St Andrews Holborn, London, when John would have been 134 years old. A wife Katherine has been added from this.[2] This may have arisen because Ancestry does not show dates for the parents on its "England Select Births and Christenings" sources. You have to click on the child's name to see the date. The other source is for the burial of "Rachel daughter of John Phillips" 28 May 1595 at St Olave Hart Street, London. This is for the burial of a child, although Rachel is said to be born in 1550 and married, so does not fit the facts either.
No evidence found to connect John with Harewood in Yorkshire. Parish registers there begin in 1621. Could not find any evidence of his existence with this birthplace.
