Grand Ma Lou Phillips experienced many changes in her young life. The elder child of many siblings. Pregnant at the age of 15, Married less than 2 months after her 16th birthday to Ira W Pate, Giving birth to my father less than 3 months after Marriage at age16. I contend Nota, her Mother, stepped in and convinced Louise to leave Ira without a warning. Louise (Edna) Pate is living in Detroit, MI prior to her 2nd Marriage in July 1927. 1930 U S Census shows Nota living in Detroit also with 6 yr old Grand Son Russell Pate(my father) Edna Anastas is living in an apartment in 1930. She was working as a Waitress. Harry was a delivery driver. Edna Anastas filed Divorce papers on Feb 13 1931. Final on 25 Sept,1931. Married James W Des Autels 1 Jan 1936 and died from TB on 25 Jan1937. 29 yrs old.

There is a message of her life that is prevalent still today in society at large. This young lady was married 3 times in a 12 year span of her youthful life. From the age of 16 - 28 years old. Pregnant with a child at 15 years old. Married and giving birth for the first time at 16 years old. I know I'm fortunate to be here today to relay her life story. My Great Grandmother Nota Myrtle Phillips insured my life by attending to my fathers nurturing, scolding, teaching and educating his life. Nota pasted on 9 Dec 1941. Two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. War was declared on Japan shortly after. I think her heart could not take the stress anymore upon hearing the news and knowing her eldest son and grandson would be fighting in World War II. My Father was a Combat Medic and Ambulance Driver during the War. Served in the Third Armored Division, Commanded by Gen. George S. Patton. Dad was in all the battles from mid - 1943 - end of 1945. I have obtained and secured a Cold War Era Certificate in his name for him. He deserves it.
