Biography

Mary Alice Watts of Chattanooga died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was 86. A native of Scott Co., Tennessee, she had lived in Chattanooga for the past 55 years. Mrs. Watts was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church and its Sunday school class, which she had taught for more than 50 years. She was a also a member of the Golden Agers Group, WMU and was named Senior Citizen of the Year of the church for 1991. She was a daughter of the late Sherman and Melinda Coffey Phillips and the widow of William L. Watts. Survivors include her daughter Shirtley Watts Gossett, Red Bank; son, Thomas L. Watts, Signal Mountain; brother, Joe Phillips, Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Michael T. and George A. Gossett and Pamela Denise Gilreath, one great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.^[1]
