Biography
John Lawrence Phillips was born on 8 January 1930 to John L. Phillips and Hilda Amalie Gehse. He was an only child and much loved. He was raised in Weehawken, NJ, where he spent his childhood until he left for the military in 1951. During the same year he met the lovely and vivacious Lillian Ruth Metzner. They were married on 10 November 1951.
John and Lillian left the city for the beautiful country side of northern NJ where they raised 6 children, all of whom are still living today and who have family of their own. Their children include John, Kathleen, Dawn, Heidi, Heather and Christian.
John was a proud member of the US Armed Forces, serving in the Air Force and the US Army National Guard. He was also skilled as an electrician, and taught electronics for many years at a vocational technical school.
His wife, Lillian, predeceased him in 2002. John remarried in 2004 to his childhood schoolmate, Rosemary Pizzuta.
John was a faithful member of his church and served his church community as an usher as well as with his electronics skills. In his local community he served as a volunteer firefighter.
John L. Phillips passed away on 31 May, 2013. He rests with so many other faithful members of our military in Wrightstown, NJ.
