Biography

Biagia Piazza is born around 1781 in Corleone, based on her age in 1807. She is the daughter of Gioachino Piazza and Antonina di Miceli.

Before Rocco and Biagia marry, their first son, Antonino, is born. He is baptized 7 November 1794, named after his paternal grandfather. His baptismal record originally describes him as the son of unknown parents. This is crossed out and his parents named. They are called a married couple in the correction, though they do not marry until the following February. His godparents are Giuseppe and Francesca Trumbaturi, a married couple.

Biagia marries Rocco Cinquemani on 16 February 1795. Her father has died by this time, and her mother is living. The record of her marriage gives Biagia's last name as Chiazza.

Biagia is called "Di Miceli" in her son Antonino's marriage record in 1835; she is called Piazza in Francesco Paolo's marriage record in 1830, and in the record of his death.

Biagia and Rocco have at least eight children: Antonino (1794), two daughters named Carmela (1797 and c. 1799), Biagia (1798), Francesco Paolo (1800), two daughters named Stefania (1802 and 1812), and Nicolo' (1809).

The first daughter named Carmela is born and baptized 15 January 1797. Her godparents are Antonino and Leoluchina Provenzano, a married couple.

Biagia is born and baptized 26 December 1798. This record calls her mother Biagia Chiazza. Her godparents are Francesco Orlando and Bernarda Sinsirica.[1]

Carmela dies on 16 March 1799 at two years and two months of age.

A second daughter named Carmela is known from the record of her death on 11 January 1800.

At baptism, Francesco Paolo is called a girl, Francesca Paola. He is born and baptized 25 March 1800. His godparents are Don Francesco Bentivegna and Donna Girolama Bentivegna, wife of Don Stefano.

The first daughter named Stefania is born and baptized 12 November 1802, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Nicolo' di Furco and Giuseppa Ficarrotta, who are not married.

She dies on 1 October 1803 at eleven months of age.

The family of Rocco Cinquemani, age 30 (b. 1777), lives in the canzoneria, according to a Church census taken in early 1807. Biagia is 26 (b. 1781) in this record, and their children Antonino, 10 (b. 1797), and Francesco Paolo, 8 (b. 1799). Carmela does not appear in this record, indicating she has died by this time.

Nicolo' is born and baptized on 27 November 1809. His godparents are A. M. Dottore Don Vito Brancato and Anna Streva, wife of Settimo.

The second daughter named Stefania is born and baptized on 18 July 1812. Her godparents are Nicolo' di Miceli and Santa Saporito.

Antonina is born of unknown parents and baptized on 17 February 1814. Biagia stands as her godmother, with Ignacio Vitrano, takes her in as wet nurse and sustains her.

Rocco dies at around age 40 (b. 1779) on 10 March 1819. Biagia survives him.

Francesco Paolo marries Maria Provenzano, a widow, on 22 January 1830. Biagia is still living.

Antonino marries Lucia Raineri (it's Raneri in this record but usually Raineri), a widow, on 9 February 1835. Rocco and Biagia have both died by this time.

Antonino dies at age 78 on 1 June 1873. Lucia survives him.
