Biography

Abraham Cross Pierce was born in Overton, Tennessee on 09 Apr 1853. He was the fourth child of William Bailey Pierce (about 1820) and Matilda Jane Cross (1821). He had one sister (Nancy Pearce (1843)) and three brothers: Joseph Pearce (1848), Solomon Hardy Pierce (29 Nov 1850), John B. Pierce (1857). When he was 27 years old, his father William Bailey Pierce died (1880). When he was 30 years old, his mother Matilda Jane Cross died (1883).

On 29 Dec 1875, he married Nancy Jane Thaxton (08 Jan 1861) in Logan, Kentucky. He was 22 years old when he married Nancy Jane Thaxton, who was 14 years old at that time. He had 15 children with Nancy Jane Thaxton: Nancy Jane Pierce, William Bailey Pierce (12 Oct 1876), Mary Florence Pierce (February 1878), Laura Belle Pierce (16 Jan 1880), John Newton Pierce (14 Apr 1882), Theophilus "O P" Pierce (06 Mar 1884), Thomas Richard Pierce (04 Jul 1885), Charles Harrison Pierce (26 Oct 1888), Myrtle Lou Pierce (17 Nov 1893), Josephine (Jossie) Pierce (18 Feb 1896), Joseph Pierce (18 Feb 1896), Ada Pierce (24 Mar 1899), Etta Pierce (24 Mar 1899), Dince Pierce (23 Dec 1901), George Edward Pierce (12 Oct 1903).

In 1900, the Census records his family in FL. Township 8 S. Range 1 E. & East of Red River, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. In 1910, he moved to Lone Grove, Carter, Oklahoma.

In 1925, he died in Brock, Carter, Oklahoma, United States when he was 72 years old. He was buried in Lone Grove, Carter, Oklahoma.[1] His wife Nancy Jane Thaxton died on 1940, 15 years after him.
