HARWOOD, Veeva Ethel was born April 30, 1918 at the family farmhouse near Lancaster, WA to Walter & Nannie Pierson. She passed away on August 18, 2007 in College Place, WA at the age of 89, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
She attended grade school and high school in Ewan, WA and graduated in 1936. She married Richard Lyle Harwood on November 18, 1937 in Steptoe, WA. She and Lyle farmed from 1943 until they retired in 1977. Lyle & Veeva became snowbirds and traveled to Arizona and Mexico during the winter months until Lyle’s death in 1982. She enjoyed helping on the farm, and in later years she was the cook at Ewan grade school and worked at the Clothes Horse in St. John. Her hobbies included gardening, doing needlework and traveling. She enjoyed extensive travels that included trips to Italy, China & Thailand. She especially enjoyed her grandkids and liked to attend their school and sporting events. Veeva was a member of the Ewan Neighbors Club, the Catholic Ladies Alter Society, and the General Federation of Women’s Club of Washington State. After moving to Walla Walla in 1994, she attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and helped at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She spent the last 4 years at Pioneer House Assisted Living and Rengency at the Park Nursing Home, where she was dearly loved.
Veeva is survived by her children and their spouses: Bobbie & Bud Jaeger of Juneau, AK, Don & Judy Harwood of Walla Walla, WA; Dan & Tami Harwood of Malden, WA and Dave & Gayle Harwood of Walla Wall, WA; a sister, Joy Bonnington of Bremerton, WA; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She and Lyle had two infant children that preceded them in death.
Funeral Services will be held August 31, 2007 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in St. John, WA. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. John-Endicott Scholarship Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
