Biography

Ethel Pierson was born January 21, 1880 in Denver, Colorado.[1,9,10] A younger brother was also born in Denver two years later.[3] Shortly after that the family moved to California. In 1900, Ethel lived with her mother and younger brother in Los Angeles.[3]

On October 11, 1904, Ethel married Arthur Ray Danielson in Los Angeles.[11] On Nov 13, 1905, Ethyl gave birth to a daughter, Ila Lois, in Los Angeles. Arthur died in early 1909 at age 33.[12]

On July 22, 1910, Ethel married John A Waite. The 1910 census,[4] taken a few months earlier, shows that John was living as a boarder with Ethel (head of household), her daughter Ila, her mother Louisa P McMillian, and her paternal grandmother Mary Pierson.[4] John was working as a locomotive engineer.[4] John's wife had died that same year.

The 1920 census shows John and Ethel, their own 7-yr old son John and 1-year old daughter, Allene, Ethel's 14 year old daughter Ila and three of John's four children from his previous marriage.[5] By 1930, only their own two children are still living with them.[6] John died in 1932.[13] In 1940, Ethel lived with her daughter Allene in Inglewood, California.[7]

Ethyl died on Jan 28, 1948 at age 68.[1,13]

10. Reference 9 shows Jan 21, 1882 as Ethel's date of birth, but since she is shown in the 1880 census as being 5 months old and other references as being born in 1880, this earlier year is presumed correct.
