Stephen is said to have been born in Suffolk county, England, about 1645, to Edward Pierson and Anne Clough[1]. He was apprenticed by his mother, a widow, about 1654 to Thomas Mulliner of New Haven to learn the carpenter's trade. He married (1) at Stratford Mary Tomlinson[2]. He settled in Derby in 1670, where he resided on Sentinel Hill. He married (2) Esther. His will was dated 2 September 1733. He died in Oxford, May 14, 1739[2], aged 94. His first wife Mary died Sept 25, 1715.[2]
Stephen Peirson emigrated to Connecticut, sent by his widowed mother to become an apprentice of Thomas Mulliner, a joiner, in Branford, Connecticut. (Thomas Mulliner, first settler of Totokeet, acquired his land from Indians before New Haven Colony purchased it in 1638, and renamed it Branford.)

Argument
How did he get linked to Rev. Abraham Sr. Pierson?
James Savage, a Boston banker and historian of some note, said the following in his "Genealogical Dictionary of First Settlers of New England": "Stephen Pierson, Derby 1679 prob. had other ch. besides Stephen and Sarah; as the name Abraham is found in the list of 1717. This may lead to the presumption that Stephen was s. of first Abraham."
Subsequently this "presumption" has been converted to "fact". Unfortunately, James Savage did not clarifying it after he learned the names of the ten children of of Rev. Abraham Sr. Pierson and wife Abigail (Mitchell) Pierson. Even their son, Rev. Abraham Jr. Pierson, founder of Collegiate School, renamed Yale College (its rector until his death in 1707) has suffered from the "Abraham Pierson" identity syndrome. His son, Abraham Pierson Esq. (1680-1752) has been linked to the wrong father.

I've requested FindaGrave to change his death date to 1739. 1749 made him over 100 at his death, which would be really rare. My source is "Henry Tomlinson, and His Descendants in America", p 15.
There is a discrepancy of 10 years in the death date in the bio section and the data section. Also, on Pierson-2056, which is a proposed merge with this profile, the death date in the data section and the FAG memorial are 10 years apart. Need to reconcile the death date for the merge.
Where is the evidence that Stephen is the son of Abraham Pierson I? Stephen was born in England, after Abraham arrived in America. There is no Stephen in the list of Abraham's children.
Pearson Millennium, pg. 231, gives Stephen Pierson (1642-1739) and Mary Tomlinson. Stephen's parents are Edward Peirson and Anne Clough.
