Biography

Joseph Pearson, born in 1767 was the son of Ephraim Pearson (Born before 1733, who, in 1789, married Rebecca W. Hull, born Waterhouse in 1765 and widow of Henry Hull). Joseph had three wives: He first married Sarah Waterous in 1789, second C. W. Jenks in 1810 (appears to have been born Clarinda Waterous) and third, P Wheelock in 1836. Joseph died in Avon, New York,1843.

Joseph went to Avon, New York in 1797 with a wife and two children. Here he had a farm which was afterwards owned by his brother, Jesse, and then another farm where he lived until he died in 1843, in East Avon, New York.[1] Here Joseph was a prominent member of the Congregational Church and where he kept a public house for many years. Joseph was widely known and highly respected.

Joseph had nine children - six daughters and three sons: Catherine, born 1773; Clarenda, born 1793; Mary, born 1794; Nancy, born 1797, Maria, born 1799; Welthy, born 1801; George, Born 1804; Frederick Bushnell, born 1806 and Bradley, born 1809. Given the dates of the children's births and his marriage in 1810 to his second wife, Sarah Waterous Pearson would have been the mother of all nine children.

Research Notes

When this profile imported via a Gedcom, Joseph was given the demographics of his brother, John Pearson, born 1765 in Ellington, Tolland, Connecticut. I have changed these to the demographics for Joseph Pearson, born 1767, in "Pierson Millennium" p 151. How relevant the sources (other than "Pierson Millennium") provided below are for Joseph specifically, I do not know. (Pierson-2995)
E: Richard Pierson in "Pierson Millennium" does not provide the source(s) of his information about John (born 1765) and his wife Rebecca, their children or John's siblings. He cites DAR "Patriot Index", Centennial Edition, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, 1994, Part 3, as the source for information about Rebecca's husband, John's siblings Ephraim and Jesse.
In 1844, the heirs of Joseph Pearson/Pierson deeded land to his widow Peda for $1500. The list of his heirs is available in the deed. View on Familysearch.org.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Hi Ken:

I think there's something off on this connection. 1) Elihu Lewis was born before his father. 2) I think Sarah Watrous was his wife, not his mother. 3) Confusion probably started because Joseph married Clarenda Watrous (widow of Obadiah Jenks) before marrying Joseph.

Let me know if you have any objections to disconnecting Elihu from the father and adding Sarah as his spouse.

Thanks!
