Biography

The record showing John was a son of Henry Piggott is found in the Hopewell Monthly Meeting Minutes in Frederick County, Virginia in May 1797 when "Request is made for a certificate for John Piggott (son of Henry) to Crooked Run Monthly Meeting. Mordecai Walker and James Steer are appointed to prepare one if no obstruction appears & produce it to next Monthly Meeting." [1]

Subsequent mentions for John Piggott in the Hopewell MM Minutes occur:

5 June 1797 p 208 Request of John Piggott approved and signed

5 Feb 1798 P 223 Request made for John Piggott to Crooked Run Monthly Meeting

2 Apr 1798 p 226 Certificate for John Piggott produced and signed.[2]

Possible further identification for this John Piggott is provided by the following Quaker record. An entry made 2 February 1805 in the Quaker records of Crooked Run Monthly Meeting, Warren County, Virginia for the certificate of removal of John Piggott and his wife Rachel with their two children Mary and Rebekah to the Concord Monthly Meeting in Ohio. [3]

Research Note

Suggest further research is needed to establish whether there was more than one John Piggott. The records indicate a wife Rachel which have been mentioned in the biography section. However, this profile has a wife Eleanor connected to him. Were there two marriages for John or were there two different men named John Piggott?
