Biography

Jacob is known from the christening records for his children and the will^[1] of his brother Thomas, where all of Jacob's children are mentioned (except for the Robert who died as an infant). This will also uses the words "my brother Jacob Piggott and Mary his now wife". This seems to suggest that he had a previous marriage. The christening records for all the children include Mary as the mother, but it was a very common name.

From Thomas' will we know that there was another brother John, and a sister Elizabeth wife of Thomas [Curtis?]. Thomas also mentions a brother in law John [Feild?], but it is not known if this was the husband of a sister or if he had married John's sister.

Jacob probably died in 1699^[2].

Notes

There are records for Piggotts in Enfield going back to at least the 16th century, and the land holdings in Thomas' will suggest they were part of this family. In the IGI set there is one matching christening in Enfield for Thomas in 1622 with a father Thomas. There is a record for John in 1624 with parents Thomas and Jane; and two records for Elizabeth with father Thomas (1617, 1619). There is a record for Jacob in 1627 with parents Thomas and Mary, and a record for Robert in 1630 with the same parents. Which of these are related cannot be determined at present. If this is the correct record for Jacob then he would have been almost forty years old when his first son was born.
