(Joseph Ball) Mr. Ball married, August 23, 1862, Margaret Spiker, born in Summit
township, Butler county, Pennsylvania, November 14, 1839. She is a daughter
of John and Susan (Pistorrious) Spiker, both born in Bavaria, Germany,
where they grew to maturity and married. He was a farmer, and in
1831 emigrated to this country with his family, having just enough money
to enable them to reach Butler county, Pennsylvania. They were thrifty
and industrious people, and in the course of time amassed a sufficient capital
to enable them to purchase a farm in Oakland township, on which they resided
until death, at which time they were in very comfortable circumstances.
They had been obliged to endure the numerous hardships of the
early pioneers, lived in a log cabin which they erected themselves, but were
a contented and happy people. They had children: Peter; Margaret, mentioned
above ; John, lives on a farm in Oakland township ; Andrew, deceased; Susan, widow of Peter Zimmel, lives in St. Joseph, Pennsylvania.
